Frequently Asked Questions

Q:   How do we get started?

A:   Most often, companies want to know whether or not they currently comply with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations and the best way to determine that is by conducting a mock Dot audit.

Q:   How long does a mock DOT audit take to complete?

A:   Depending on the size of the company audits take generally 1-2 days.

Q:   What will a mock DOT audit tell me?

A:    The results would be an indicator of how you might perform in the case of a compliance review by the Federal or State DOT.

Q:  What can Lawrence Risk Management do to help me improve my chances of a successful compliance review?

A:  Based on any deficiencies found in the mock DOT audit, we can help develop written policies and internal procedures to improve compliance.

Q:  What outsourcing services do Lawrence Risk Management provide?

A:   Drivers Daily Log Auditing

       Driver Qualification Maintenance

       Driver Safety Meetings

Q:  What are the benefits to outsourcing these services?

A:  Outsourcing provides an opportunity to free up a company’s resources, both personnel and technology, to accomplish tasks that are not part of the company’s core competency.

Q:  How do you charge for your services?

A:  Based on the services requested, there are different ways we would charge.  They are:

1.      Hourly

2.      By driver

3.      By project

4.      Monthly retainer

Q:  Besides helping me prepare for a DOT compliance review, how else can LRMS help me?

A:  Once a company has achieved a satisfactory level of compliance with the DOT, it can move on to looking at implementing “best practices” policies and procedures designed to achieve a higher level of risk management.

Q: What is an example of a “best practice” policy or procedure?

A:  One example would be for a company to establish driver hiring criteria that exceeds the requirements set forth on Part 391 of the FMCSR.  Another example would be a driver safety recognition program rewarding them for safe driving and/or working injury free.

Q:  How can LRMS help me prevent motor vehicle accidents and workplace injuries?

A:  The key to preventing any type of loss is to determine what is causing the losses to begin with.  Through loss trending and analysis, LRMS can help a company identify root causes of losses so that corrective action can be taken.

Q:  How else can LRMS help me with risk management?

A:  With LRMS you have access to twenty plus years of industry knowledge and experience in risk management.  From DOT compliance reviews to best practice loss prevention programs, LRMS is a resource that can help a company implement effective loss reduction programs without the need to hire a full time risk manager.
